Welcome to Zagreb
Welcome to Zagreb, the capital city of the Republic of Croatia. Zagreb
is an old Central European city. For centuries it has been a focal point
of culture and science, and now of commerce and industry as well. It
lies on the intersection of important routes between the Adriatic coast
and Central Europe.
When the Croatian people achieved their independence in 1991,
Zagreb became a capital a political and administrative centre for the
Republic of Croatia. Zagreb is also the hub of the business,
academic, cultural, artistic and sporting worlds in Croatia. Many
famed scientists, artists and athletes come from the city, or work in it.
Zagreb can offer its visitors the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper
Town, picturesque openair markets, diverse shopping facilities, an
abundant selection of crafts and a choice vernacular cuisine. Zagreb
is a city of green parks and walks, with many places to visit in the
beautiful surroundings. The city will enter into the third millennium with
a population of one million. In spite of the rapid development of the
economy and transportation, it has retained its charm, and a relaxed
feeling that makes it a genuinely human city.

Zagreb ist eine alte mitteleuropäische Stadt. Durch die Jahrhunderte
hat sich die Stadt zum reichen kulturellen und wissenschaftlichen als
auch zum starken kaufmännischen und wirtschaftlichen Zentrum
entwickelt. Sie liegt am Schnittpunkt wichtiger Verkehrswege
zwischen der Adriaküste und Mitteleuropa.
Als im Jahre 1991 das kroatische Volk seine Unabhängigkeit als
Staat erlangte, wurde Zagreb zur Hauptstadt, zum politischen und
verwaltungsbehördlichen Zentrum der Republik Kroatien. Zagreb ist
auch geschäftliches Zentrum, Universitätsstadt, Stadt der Kultur, der
Kunst und der Unterhaltung. Aus Zagreb stammen und hier wirken
auch viele bekannte Wissenschaftler, Künstler und Sportler. Zagreb
bietet seinen Gästen eine barocke Atmosphäre der Oberen Stadt,
malerische Märkte im Freien, verschiedenartige Kaufläden und eine
reiche Auswahl an gewerbsmässigen Erzeugnissen, ausserdem eine
leckere hausgemachte Küche. Zagreb ist eine Stadt der grünen
Parkanlagen und Spazierwege, mit zahlreichen Ausflugsorten in der
wunderschönen Umgebung. Am Anfang des dritten Jahrtausends ist
Zagreb eine Millionenstadt. Trotz der schnellen Entwicklung der
Wirtschaft und des Verkehrs, hat sie sich ihre eigentümliche

Dobro došli u Zagreb, glavni grad Republike Hrvatske! Zagreb je stari
srednjoeuropski grad. Stoljećima se razvijao kao bogato kulturno i
znanstveno te snažno trgovačko i gospodarsko središte. Nalazi se na
sjecištu važnih prometnica izmeñu jadranske obale
i srednje Europe.
Kada je 1991. godine hrvatski narod ostvario državnu samostalnost,
Zagreb postaje glavnim gradom, političkim i upravnim središtem
Republike Hrvatske. Zagreb je i poslovno središte, sveučilišni centar,
grad kulture, umjetnosti i zabave. Iz Zagreba potječu i u njemu djeluju
mnogi glasoviti znanstvenici, umjetnici i sportaši. Svojim gostima Zagreb
nudi barokni ugodaj Gornjega grada, slikovite tržnice na otvorenom,
raznovrsne trgovine i bogat izbo

Parkovi
Green parks and fountains, avenues of trees and flowers starting with
Zrinjevac in the town centre. The series of parks go from town center
down to the railway station, through the botanical gardens and up to
Marulić and Tito Squares where the theatre stands. They are known
as the Lenucci horseshoe because of the shape they form and the
name of the landscape gardener who planned them. They are well
provided with benches where you can rest from sightseeing and plan
the next thing you want to do.

Zagreba niz od osam parkova tzv. Lenuzzijeve potkove.
U nizu šetališta, od Zrinjevca, preko Botaničkog vrta, pa sve do
Marulićevog i Trga maršala Tita, slijedit ćete liniju zelenila i cvijeća.
Njihov mir i klupa koja čeka baš na vas utočište su i predah od turističke
šetnje, njihova ljepota i galerija na otvorenom priča su o posve osobitom

Parks, das sog. Lenuzzische Hufeisen. Auf verschiedenen
Spazierwegen vom Zrinjevac über den Botanischen Garten bis zum
MaruliĆ-Platz bzw. bis zum Marshchall-Tito-Platz folgen Sie an
Blumenbeeten vorbei einer grünen Linie.

Is in close proximity to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Due to its
numerous landscaped trails, mountain houses, historical monuments
and recreational areas, the central part of this wooded mountain gives
an impression of a spacious city park. By walking down the
educational trails, you can learn about some of almost one thousand
recorded plant varieties, listen to the song of around a hundred bird
types, and come across numerous insects and animals. The walk
through the forest restores natural balance to life, and each moment
spent in the Medvednica Nature Park enriches your existence.

befindet sich im östliche Stadtteil. Als er 1794 für die Öffentlichkeit
eröffnet wurde, war er die erste öffentliche Promenade in diesem Teil
Europas. Er wurde nach seinem Begründer, dem Zagreber Bischof
Maksimilijan Vrhovec (1752-1827) benannt, dem neben dem
Erzbischof Haulik die Errichtung des Parks am meisten zu
verdanken ist. Der Maksimir Park wurde Mitte des 19. Jh. auf dem
Gebiet des ausgerodeten Eichenwaldes angelegt.

Središnji dio šumovite planine zbog brojnih ureñenih staza, planinarskih
domova, povijesnih spomenika i rekreativnih sadržaja pruža dojam
prostranog gradskog parka. Obilaskom poučnih staza možete upoznati
dio od gotovo tisuću zabilježenih biljnih vrsta, slušati pjev stotinjak vrsta
ptica, sresti brojne kukce i životinje. Šetnja šumom vraća životnu

Smjestio se u istoČnom dijelu grada. Kad je za javnost otvoren 1794.
godine, bio je prvo javno ŠetaliŠte u ovom dijelu Europe. Ime je dobio po
svom osnivaČu, zagrebaČkom biskupu Maksimilijanu Vrhovcu (1752 -
1827), koji je, uz nadbiskupa Haulika najzasluŽniji za njegovo ureÑenje.
Maksimir je ureÑen na prostoru iskrČene hrastove Šume sredinom 19.
stoljeĆa. U novom perivoju ureÑene su aleje okruŽene livadama i
proplancima prepunim ukrasnog cvijeĆa i grmlja, dok je uokolo ostala
prirodna hrastova Šuma.
Maksimir
Is situated in the eastern part of the town. It was open to public in
1794. and was the first public promenade in this part of the Europe. It
was named after its founder, the Zagreb bishop Maksimilian Vrhovec
(1752 - 1827) who, apart from the archbishop Haulik, took the credit
for its arrangement.
